bibendum
I built my hackintosh from an ASRock 775i945GZ motherboard, with a nice Intel Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0GHz and half a gig of DDR2 533 ram. I installed first from the HOTiSO DVD, then upgraded with the JaS 10.4.8 combo updater, but the system was so unstable, it'd crash if I just looked at it funny. So I downloaded the full JaS 10.4.8 DVD and installed from that. Seemed Rock Solid, but no ethernet. So I copied the IONetwork kext from the HOTiSO DVD and that gave me back my ethernet and also put in the sound system patch, but got instant instability, so I backed off the audio patch. I've tried to type this message in 3 times from Safari and it keeps crashing. The error is: Exception: EXC_ARITHMETIC (0x0003) Codes: EXC_I386_DIV (divide by zero) Thread 0 Crashed: 0 <<00000000>> 0xffff032a __gettimeofday + 74 (cpu_capabilities.h:219) 1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9000422b gettimeofday + 43 2 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x9083413e CFAbsoluteTimeGetCurrent + 31 3 com.apple.WebCore 0x94fdc83f QDateTime::currentDateTime() + 11 4 com.apple.WebCore 0x94e115c4 DOM::EventImpl::EventImpl[not-in-charge](DOM::EventImpl::EventId, bool, bool) + 144 5 com.apple.WebCore 0x94e11511 DOM::UIEventImpl::UIEventImpl[not-in-charge](DOM::EventImpl::EventId, bool, bool, DOM::AbstractViewImpl*, long) + 51 ...etc... I think I'm having a timing issue because I keep seeing things like this in the log: Nov 27 00:37:42 testos-computer mDNSResponder: mDNSPlatformRawTime: last_mach_absolute_time 793883410000007C Nov 27 00:37:42 testos-computer mDNSResponder: mDNSPlatformRawTime: this_mach_absolute_time 775E8C340000007C Nov 27 00:37:42 testos-computer mDNSResponder: mDNSPlatformRawTime went backwards by 31 ticks; setting correction factor to 1023129713 Also, all video stuff is stuttery - like 2 steps forward and one step back. Even quicktime jumps back as it is playing. Very strange. Screen savers jump backwards as they are zooming a pic, etc. The question is: What can I do? I ended up downloading FireFox to put in this message - I just couldn't get thru it in Safari. Any thoughts? I read one fix to do with AMD and something the kernel was doing to determine cores and ended up dividing by zero. I doubt that is the case, but would having a duo help, or a 3 gig P4 prescott good enough? Could it be something to do with the clocking - the fact that it seems to be resetting it all the time, so some routines might see the clock as going backwards and get a negative duration, and end up dividing by zero? TIA. Patrick P.S. Also, if the system sleeps, I can't get the video back. The system wakes up and seems like it's doing something, but no screen. It worked before when I booted from the HOTiSO DVD, but I think it was just running in basic VGA mode - no CI QE.
