XLostSpartanX
So I got the JaS DVD. I set up a partition on one of my external HDDs to run Mac on. When I boot from the DVD I see the apple logo and a little spinning circle. About 5 mins into the booting a little circle with a slash though it pops up. Now at this point it has been loading for over 15 minutes. I know this isn't the way it is supposed to go, so what is going on? Btw, I'm running this on a C2D system with an AsUs mobo. -Nick
Rammjet
If your DVD is IDE and connected to a JMicron controller, then OSX won't recognize it. If that is the case, you can try an IDE-SATA adapter or get a SATA DVD drive or use VMWare in Windows to install to your SATA hard drive.

The DVD loads up fine to begin with so I don't think it is the controller issue. Also the HDD isn't SATA. It is external with USB 2.0. I tried loading it on VMWare, but when I booted VMWare it said that no bootable dvd was found. I had mounted the ISO with d-tools. -Nick

Rammjet
BIOS on the computer reads a few files into memory and starts the boot process. When you see the grey apple with the spinning icon, BIOS has handed off the boot process to OSX. When you see the circle with the slash, OSX is giving the error message "waiting root device". This means it can't read anything from the DVD and is waiting for it to respond. If you were to type -v on the command line before hitting Enter to start the installation, you would see the error message. OSX cannot read the DVD on your IDE DVD drive. Others with similar Asus boards have had the same problems and had to use the solutions I gave you. There are even several threads on this board about the subject. One was by Conroe Mac. How do you think I knew you probably have a JMicron IDE controller? I pulled it out of my ass?

You didn't tell me that I did have one, just that if I did. But thank you for your advice. I do have a PCI controller card (VIA). Ill try to use that. But why don't you think the VMWare thing worked? I would really rater use that. Thanks, Nick
Rammjet
I haven't seen any PCI - IDE card work, although a VIA card has a shot at it. Have you installed the proper drivers in Windows for your ATA controller? If not, VMWare won't work with it either. Starting with the Conroe boards, Asus abandoned the highly compatible Intel controller combined with the non-compatible Marvell controller and went with a single non-compatible JMicron controller for IDE..
