I'm running 10.14.6.  If I can get a 'virgin' Catalina install to a formatted drive working and then use the Migration Assistant to import from a Carbon Copy Backup of 10.14.6 to get all my programs and settings (this worked well when moving from Sierra to Mojave), will it pull in the custom kexts that I have installed into /L/E?

I'm undecided on whether to run all kexts from Clover/Other (currently installed in /L/E) - but .. want to be able to do that if that ends up being the plan, and I'm a bit worried that importing from my backup using Apple's Migration Assistant might pull in some kexts that I no longer want installed in /L/E?

I totally agree - it would be simpler to upgrade directly.

I did attempt to directly upgrade a few weeks ago from 10.14.6 to 10.15.2, with latest WEG/etc. in /L/E and the latest Clover at that time.

Just a blur as to why it failed when creating a -verbose video with my iPhone SE, I'm going to try again this weekend with 10.15.3 and create a Pixel 3a video in slow mo.

As I've seen another with an identical machine upgrade successfully, I know my hardware and basic WEG/Lilu,etc. kexts are ok.

I use a custom USB SSDT I generated for Sierra - and also had Hackintool add a kext for Mojave hot swappable drives (maybe that doesn't upgrade)?

But, I'm guessing that my UEFI drivers are not compatible with 10.15.x for some reason, so I'm trying to make sense of those.  Very hard to figure out exactly which ones should be used.  Or some config.plist changes that won't work for 10.15.x?

So, I've been grabbing EFI.zip's that worked on 10.15.x for computers similar to mine, seeing which EFI drivers are working.

Installing from scratch with just a simple config.plist and very basic kexts might remove some unknown variables causing my failure?

BTW - Migrating from a CC clone was Very easy and painless for me, and it ?might? be that a clean install and a migration would have less accumulated detritus from 10.14.6 and be theoretically more stable?

Anyway, it's a fun challenge to figure it all out!! I'm standing on the shoulders of Giants who have created Hackintool, WEG, etc. to make it soooo much simpler than it was a few years ago.  This is just such a great community!!!
