Chris Kim
I've been messing around with the osx86 development dvd, and installed it on a athlon64 3000+ machine that I have. I know my motherboard isnt anywhere near intel chipset, so as a result my sound & network dont work. I do also have to boot with the options: -x "Display Mode"="1280x1024" to get to display and even boot, as leaving off the -x just sits at the white apple screen until it says I have an error and need to restart. Question is, if I build an intel box that is the compatible chipset and all, will I be able to run in standard, non-safe mode? What are the differences between safe and non-safe mode? MLS
Yes, you can run in non-safe mode. If for some reason your hardware is not compatible you should be able to change a .plist preference file that will remeber the boot flags so you don't have to use them at boot. Not sure what the safe mode exactly do. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/3417-can-you-boot-in-non-safe-mode/#findComment-21716 Share on other sites

What are the differences between safe and non-safe mode? Sure you can boot without an option when the hardware is 100% compatible. In safe mode I have no sound (HP nc6000) P.S: for your network problem, buy a realtek 8139 (in Germany only 4€) so you can use the web. P.P.S: do you have a ATI card? I had the same problem (boot with -x) until I delete the ATI kext like this: # cd System/Library/Extensions # sudo rm -r ATI* Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/3417-can-you-boot-in-non-safe-mode/#findComment-21763 Share on other sites
