ice799
Hey guys - I just got the 10.4.6 prepatched and burnt it to a DVD-R at the SLOWEST SPEED POSSIBLE by my dvd burner - a SAMSUNG (4x is slowest speed). dvd WORKS in my friends computer but NOT in mine. His computer is a bit older, mine is more recent I am wondering if this is some sort of a SATA problem or ICH problem? My specs are below, and I have an interesting SATA and PATA setup. 3 harddrives, 1 of which I plan on installing mac osx on, the other 2 are in bios raid 0 for freeBSD. The error I am getting is: SAM Multimedia: Read or Write failed ASC = 0x29, ASCQ = 0x00 Waiting for root device Now, I've read the other threads with similar problems. I have tried the following things: 0.) Burnt TWO dvd-r both are TDK media, one at SLOWEST SPEED (4x) and one at max speed. 1.) I -JUST- updated my firmware to the latest version. Same error. 2.) I have 2 DVD drives in my system, the Samsung burner and a Sony DVD. I have tried booting out of both by adjusting my BIOS settings. Same error. I am currently downloading the 10.4.7 image to try that, to see if it fixes the problem. My specs are: intel core 2 duo, E6600 2gb ddr2-800 ocz asus p5w-deluxe nvidia 7900 gt sony dvd reader PATA samsung dvd burner PATA 1 x 300 gb seagate SATA 2 x 300gb seagate SATA drives on bios RAID 0 floppy drive (yep) ICH7 Any advice? Thanks.
ice799
also is there a guide to using VMware to do a native install? meaning, use VMware to virtualize the strange sata/pata set up I have but then boot mac osx without having to use vmware? I saw people mention this, but I couldn't find a guide to this anywhere...
