daishi
Hi everyone, after buying a macbook some time ago i decided that it would be worth to convert my pc into a mac, too . The installation of the Jas 10.4.7 DVD went smoothly, only the restart at the end didn´t work. But somehow I can´t upgrade to 10.4.8. The installer just hangs with a spinning wheel (in vmware and native). I could install the package using pacifier, but couldn´t shut down the computer afterwords and the restart hangs with the apple logo just before the login-screen. I tried it about 4 times now (with some complete reinstalls) and have no clue what to do about... Is there a solution to my problem? thanks daishi p.s.: i´ve got an AMD 3500+ SSE2, a Geforce 6800GT AGP and 2GB RAM. The chipset on the Asus Board is an nForce 3... lord_muad_dib
first always use -v at prompt to troubleshoot the problem please!
daishi
Allright, will do this when I am back home. Sorry, this is my first time messing with OSX... daishi
daishi
Just one more question before I use the -v option: is it normal that I can´t use the installer and need to install software using pacifist instead? thanks daishi
etc
No, it isn't normal. I've installed official update (without any problems), then overwrite mach_kernel with new mifki kernel (you must do it before rebooting after update, otherwise your system will rebooting again and again). After that reboot — all ok.
daishi
Hm, thats strange. Using the -v option didn´t show anything new: it still hangs with a blue screen and a (still movable) cursor on it. no messages are shown... the mifki kernel is only for intel, right? daishi
daishi
...any suggestions? p.s.: my mainboard is a GA 8KNS-Ultra-939... thanks daishi
daishi
...alright. figured it out by myself: the installer has to be run with rosetta...so it was quite simple! daishi
