flickering / graphics issues - expected when running MacOS in Vmware?

I've been having several issues with random apps flickering or not showing text properly. For example,

1) The integrated terminal in VS Code sometimes shows no text. I have to click on the terminal to get it to show text but if I click away its gone

2)  Chrome - the tab bar isn't being displayed properly.  It can also take several clicks to switch tabs and also having more than one tab open Chrome will flicker between the tabs you're switching to / from

Are these sort of issues expected? I feel like this wasn't a problem when I was working in Vmware 14 but I could be remembering things incorrectly as well

These are symptoms showing lack of graphics acceleration. This can only be achieved if your VM can present a supported GPU to macOS.

There can only be 2 x ways for this:

  1. the VM is able to simulate/emulate a supported GPU (unlikely)
  2. the VM can directly passthrough to the underlying GPU and it's one that's supported by macOS

So, 1st thing to check is if your GPU is supported by Mojave.

Well, it's not supported because of Apple being a baby or something...

But if it were supported, how would one enable?

And this makes sense too because I don't remember having these issues before moving to Mojave
