System strangely slow (Jas 10.4.8)

I have an Asrock ConRoe945G-DVI with Celeron D 346 + 512MB RAM. Installed from Jas 10.4.8 (with semthex kernel).

Install went fine! Audio and LAN are working! But system is kind of slow. Especially GUI. It isn't as responsive as my G4 iBook (1.33 GHz + 1GB RAM; Radeon 9550 with 32MB VRAM). Dock animation is a bit slow... as the rest of the GUI.

Is it because of GMA950? Or is this crappy Celeron that creates this bottleneck?

If you are running the Semthex kernel installed by the DVD, then you need to set your FSB in boot.plist. Or go get the latest kernel which doesn't need the FSB set.

When using the Semthex kernel, you may need to set your FSB frequency. It is set to 200 by default.

At boot, type: fsb=xxx (where xxx is a number like 133, 166 or 200)

fsb is a frequency

fsb (freq) = fsb (speed) / 4

Find your fsb (speed) in your BIOS or:

(OSX) System Profiler -> Hardware -> Bus Speed (fsb speed)

(Win) PC Wizard -> Mainboard -> Chipset -> fsb (speed) and fsb (freq) are both avail

Remember to divide the speed by 4. If your FSB (speed) is 667, then your FSB (freq) = 166 because 667/4 = 166

At boot, type fsb=166 (use your real value) or put the fsb in your boot.plist under Kernel Flags:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>
fsb=166
</string>

To get the latest kernel, go to IRC channel #kernel and look at the topic or ask for the link. To get to IRC, click the Chat link at the top of the forum. On the next page, click the "forum" link. When IRC starts up, click on Channels and select #kernel.
