Hello All,

I have an MSI-1029 notebook computer whose specs can be found here:

http://www.rawpowerpc.com/laptop-49-MSI-1029.php

I have the AMD Turion MT-40 CPU in the notebook.

I tried installing OS X 10.4.6 last night but I got an error just after the DVD started to boot the installation routine. It didn't even get to the part where I could use Disk Utilities.

I used the -v option at startup to spit out the verbose output, and the error said someting about:

alloc AppleACPIPlatformExpert

That's not the exact string but it's pretty close. There was also something about com.apple.AppleACPIPlatform that it was complaining about.

I was using (I think) a JaS 10.4.6 patched image.

Any idea what's wrong? After all the work I went through getting a new hard drive, copying over my existing drive, and installing the new drive, I figured the actual OS X installation would be the easiest part, at least until I could find out what hardware did and didn't work.

If you think I need to use another image, can somebody please point me in the direction of the one I should use?

Thank you!!!!! I really want to give OS X a try.

Sounds like that its the DVD Drive's fault. I can't install directly from mine either. You need to install VMWare on XP then install OS X through that. There are some good guides around here somewhere... Look on the wiki if you can't find it on the foum. Oh an a Jas 10.4.6 image is probably the best one to use on an AMD cuz there is a 10.4.7 or 10.4.8 Amd Patch yet(to my knowledge)

Really, a problem with the DVD drive? Weird. That's not the error I would have expected. I would have expected the DVD to not even boot or get to the start of the installation routine.

Any other thoughts? Is that the error you've seen when you couldn't install off of the DVD?

Thank you!!!!

It's actually a problem with the older PC's ACPI power management. And I believe something is wrong with the kernel. I got mac os x to run perfectly on my laptop, but iWork 08 requires 10.4.10 so I installed KoolKal's Everything went finr did everything right like i do with regular updates... and now i get the acpi error. I'm working on it and i'll let everyone know
