rognvaldr
Hi all, Is there a way to add, or free certain screen resolutions to choose from? On my windows PC I can use 1920x1080 @85 Herz, but OSX won't allow me to use that resolution above 72 Hertz. Strangely, it will allow me to use 1920x1200 @76Hz, while my Windows PC will go up to 75Hz at that resolution. hiroo
what type of monitor are you using? unless it is a CRT tube type monitor, the refresh rate is no longer relevant... the higher refresh rate isn't getting you anything. rognvaldr
@hurrf: Thanks! I will check it out @hiroo: Yep, plain old CRT (24" Sony GDM-forgotthenumber). Huuuge monitor 50cm deep, 58cm wide, 50cm high, insanely heavy: needs two people to lift when you're moving. Bought it dirt cheap on Ebay. Well worth the money. camvet
Hmm, gave it try on mine and it doesn't seem to do anything. I'm running and ATI Mobility X1600 with 10.4.7. Has anyone successfully used switchresx for this purpose? It seems to be designed to do exactly what I wanted. rognvaldr
I don't like it (SwitchResX). It seems far too complicated for what it does. All I want is the Displays Preferences not to show any greyed-out resolutions. Something like Windows' 'Hide unsupported resolutions' checkbox that you can uncheck. Heck even editing a .plist would do for me. rognvaldr
Another solution for some is to boot into OSX with your monitor turned off. Sadly, for me this is not the solution that would help me out. While there are plenty of solutions to choose from with this method, not the two that I am interested in: 1920x1080 and 1920x1200. So, for now I'm still stuck at either 1920x1080@72 or 1920x1200@76 Just thought I'd mention it.
