I thought I saw a post earlier about somone with the same problem. I've searched and searched and now I cannot find it again. If some one could direct me or help me here, I would be most appriciative.

I loaded 10.4.6 successfully, (except with audio probs) doing a dual boot w/ XP on a Dell Inspiron 5160. Later, I ran the update pkg for 10.4.8. It ran fine w/ out error, but when I rebooted, I get as far as the loading screen, and no farther.

I used SSE3 on the install 10.4.6 install, and everything worked. I used the SSE3 upgrade pkg.

Ok, i think i have made some progress. I did the Jas installation and that is it. i didn't not do any of the other options on the jas 10.4.8 dvd. It was only at that point that i was able to get the installation to boot.

So far i believe that the issue lies within the USB components that are installable options on the dvd.

I hope this works

Well, I've not yet aquired the 4.8 install DVD, but when I do, I will try as you suggest. I hope if works and is more stable than the 4.6 version. I get frequent crashes and it doesn't seem to matter what programs i am running.

One other thing, I can connect to my wireless network at home, yet I cannot connect to the internet using that connection. I have to plug in an ethernet cord if I want to use the net. Any thoughts there?>

Thanks.

I saw a "failed to load extension" on "AppleUSBEHCI" right before it reboots/halts. So there's probably some validity to what madaspy's saying.. I'll try his approach in a sec....

update: I installed just the combo update and the PCIE update for my X1600 and that didn't work. I then wiped out the partition and started over and installed just the combo update 10.4.8 and it works. my screen resolution is a crappy 1024 and it should be 1680x1050 but i'll figure that out later... hope this helps somebody troubleshoot it further.
