Ok strange problem

Ok, bit of background first. I've installed OSX on this computer and one other one 3-4 times total. I pretty much got the process down and can do it without problem. I went to install OSX on my new 120gb hdd I just purchased. Created a FAT32 logical partition, went through the process to make it usable for OSX and thats where the problems start. I selected Mac OS (Journaled) as the Erase type and clicked Erase. Waited about 2min then i got an error saying it failed (which I've gotten before and wasn't too worried about it) until i looked up to try it once more. For some reason, the OSX installation deleted the partition. Again, I wasn't too worried, just booted XP and tried to re-create the partition, using Partition Magic 8.0. When I got the program loaded, i noticed disk 1 (my new hdd) was reading "BAD". Once again, I wasn't worried, figured it was just a bad install. Tried to reformat the drive into every type Partition Magic could do and everytime i get "Error #4, bad argument/parameter".

Any help would be great, even if it doesn't get me OSX back, I'd rather it just be a storage drive then a paperweight.

sorry to tell you this, but the bad that you are getting is probably the SMART status of the drive, so I would have to say that it is a paperweight, espically since you cant get it to partition, maybe try the windows installer to partition it? but I would recommand you return it and get your money back or another one.
