slave-zeo
I saw that the new dvd comes with "support" for 965 SATA. Does anyone have any further information about what support it includes? Are the SATA channels available during install or only after installing the support package? My main problem is that I have a Dell XPS 410 (core 2 duo with 965 chipset). The 965 used on this particular system contains 2 SATA controllers on the ich8. One has 2 ports and one has 4 ports. They are both Intel controllers and not a 3rd party controller. There is no ATA support whatsoever. Both controllers are set to AHCI SATA via the BIOS. The device ids are : Primary 2 channel SATA controller - 28258086 Secondary 4 channel SATA controller - 28208086 On install of the past 10.4.8 dvd and various other install dvds (10.4.4 - 10.4.7) I can boot the install dvd from a external dvd drive, the installer starts and runs as normal, but when it comes time to install there is no Hard Drives found because the SATA controllers are not loading a kext/driver. Its great that 965 SATA support is included BUT is it available at install time so I can physically get 10.4.8 installed onto a SATA hard drive in this machine. Also, thanks to everyone who played a part in getting this new DVD off the gorund. munky
worst case, if its not supported by the dvd, presumably you could install thru vmware to the real partition? slave-zeo
Yeah I was thinking about doing the VMware thing OR installing on another machine and moving the Hard drive over to the XPS410. It would be so much nicer to pop the disc in and have in install, though. At this point only time will tell.
