I've been using the JaS 10.4.7 on my HP Pavilion and it's been fine. The only thing I had to patch was the ATI X600, using the Callisto 3 patch and the Koverg update.

I decided to install JaS' 10.4.8 combo update today (SSE Intel). I downloaded it from Demonoid yesterday and after it had finished installing, it rebooted, and then it just sticks on the blue screen with the Mac OSX box, just before it would normally bring up the log-in screen.

I've tried booting into safe mode, but it's still the same.

Please could someone assist? I don't want to have to start from scratch, as I've spent a week applying all of my preferences, etc.

Dan.

Try these instructions from JaS

Hit F8 during post

Boot up options -v -f -s

mount -uw /

mv/system/library/exrensions/r2d2.kext /system/library/extensions/

Good luck

Just tried that, but no luck. Just to clarify my problem, if I try and boot normally, I just get a black screen with a cursor which I can move around. If I try and boot in safe mode, it gets as far as the stage before the login screen, but just hangs.

I've managed to fix it. Luckily I had already made a backup of my Extensions directory, before I even applied the patches to my display on the original 10.4.7 install.

To fix it I replaced the Extensions folder with the backed up one, and added the r2d2.kext to it, and rebooted. Now I just need to re-apply my display patches again, and hopefully that will work.

Thought I'd fixed it, but not quite. However, the problem seems to be the Koverg patch. I have got it back working with the Coverg 3 update, so have the correct resolution. However, if I apply the Koverg v0.2 patch to correct CI/QE, I get the black screen with just a cursor.

Can anyone throw any light on this, as I am now without QI/CE having updated to 10.4.8. I wish I'd stuck with 10.4.7 - if it's not broken, don't fix it...etc

Had the same experience as you - no boot after installing JaS' 10.4.8 (JaS we love you, you made it possible for us in the first place!)

I'm going to try what you did, backing up the 10.4.7 Extensions (although that may be the only part upgraded ;-) and share my experience on this thread.
