RussellCofIdaho
I last built a Hackintosh in 2011 and am looking to build another from a stock PC system. I have noticed a lot of older Core i servers with quads and dual quads coming up for reasonable prices lately, any idea what would work well for a Hackintosh? Is there some kind of 'Beginners Guide to OS X on Older Computers'? I have been through the New Users Lounge and there is some great info there but not specifically about What Are Good (or maybe What Are Bad) Systems to Buy. Any good hints? These older systems are plenty fast for most things and I've seen some for under $100. Way out here in the country eBay is the best place to look for computers but it is a wasteland of difficult to sort computer scrap it seems... BUY IT NOW! RussellCofIdaho
What I am seeing is Core i7 computers going pretty cheap, the Core i5 quad I built for my wife is 3.5/3.9GHz and still screams. I wouldn't doubt that, except for video, it is within 10% of the speed of a NEW system, hardly enough to notice! I guess I should look for 2011 or newer as I am happy with that one?!? I just don't see the need to spend $2k on a 'new' iMac when it has two year old parts...
