Need to update for compatibility Reasons... I think?

I recently installed a new motherboard (ECS P4M800PRO-M V 2.0) and a new processor (Intel Core 2 Duo E6300) I was told that both these components were compatible with OSX 10.4.7 The problem is I am running 10.4.6 so when I choose OSX from my dual boot menu the computer simply restarts. I installed OSX with myzars install dvd and was wondering if I can update it with the JAS updater? If so how should I go about this since I am not able to get OSX to launch??
