ellioT
Hey everyone. I have tried EVERYTHING i can find on these forums and elsewhere to get my pcmcia wireless network card to work, still nothing. I am running 10.4.7 from the DVD install. The pcmcia card uses the same Atheros chipset as a lot of the netgear wifi cards. It has a vendor id of 168c and a device id of 13. On there forums there are a lot of people who have gotten cards with this vid and did to work with the 10.4.5 IO80211Family kext, but i am not so lucky. I have made sure that the Info.plist in this kext has a section for my vendor id and device id. I have also edited the newer kext's for 10.4.6 and 10.4.7 (might be the same). I have tried the en0 trick as well. The network card has lights on it, and i have never gotten them to turn on, or have the wireless show up in the network settings. Some people with this chipset got the card to work during the DVD install, but not after they were in OS X. I am wondering if maybe the drivers for the actual PCMCIA slots aren't loading and thats why its not being found and thats why the lights aren't coming on. I was also wondering, lspci in linux says this card is 168c,13 but (rev 02). Do i need to change something because its a rev 2? Thanks a bunch in advance for anyone that helps. ellioT
**edit** This MIGHT be the cardbus card? it plugs into the side, so i figured it was PCMCIA, dunno if that helps or makes a diff (i also wanted email notification, sorry for the extra post) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/31163-netgear-wpn511-wifi-pcmcia-still-not-working/#findComment-216410 Share on other sites
Rammjet
I am wondering if maybe the drivers for the actual PCMCIA slots aren't loading and thats why its not being found and thats why the lights aren't coming on. Bingo!! Boot in verbose mode (-v) and see if any errors are generated. Also, muck around and try to determine the vendor id and device id of the PC Card/Cardbus controller chip. There are a couple of Texas Instruments Cardbus controller drivers on the board - if you have a Texas Instruments controller chip. ellioT
I did some poking in linux and my device id and vendor id looks as follows: The PCI Bridge says "IGP 340M (Ati) == 1002:7010 The Cardbus says 1217:7223 and then one is 1217:7100 I am gonna do a -v boot and see if anything catches my eye, THANKS a bunch! (also, the AC 97 sound is 10b9:5451, supposably a SigmaTel STAC9767 with wavetable, 3D effect, and 3D positioning, but a lspci says "ALi Corp M545 PC AC-Link Controller Audio, do you know which plugin in the AppleAC97 kext i should use for this?) ***Update*** i did a verbose boot, and it looked like there was a IOPCCardBridge::start failed, then something about AdjustResourceInfo --> unknown error code 0xffffffff Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/31163-netgear-wpn511-wifi-pcmcia-still-not-working/#findComment-216548 Share on other sites
flow
Myzar 10.4.5 works out of box for these kind of cards. dont know why all Jas 10.4.6 10.4.7 10.4.8 installation DVDs doesnt support broadcom 440x onboard enthernet and netgear PCcard wireless. maybe from 10.4.6 apple changed something in the extensions one way is to update from 10.4.5 ->10.4.8 old kernel , and I am still trying to figure out either fix the new kernel installation or just do a kernel update Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/31163-netgear-wpn511-wifi-pcmcia-still-not-working/#findComment-270569 Share on other sites
