Klondike Kat
I have a installed and upgraded Yosemite installation which doesnt reboot/shutdown at all. The installation is a bit custom as i moved the /Applications and /Users folder to two additional harddrives and linked it back to my main SSD drive where the OSX installation is located: MacOSX-System: SSD with Main OSX System MacOSX-Applications: HDD1 with /Applications at /Volumes/MacOSX-Applications/Applications MacOSX-Users: HDD2 with /Users at /Volumes/MacOSX-Users/Users Logout works but takes some time. I noticed that after linking Applications and/or Users reboot and shutdown doesnt work anymore and results in an endless spinning wheel. It also dont work if i log out first and then reboot or shutdown I booted in verbose mode and the following comes up when doing a shutdown from a logged in user: continuing Unmount of /private/vol failed (45) Unmount of /hosts failed (45) Unmount of /home failed (45) Unmount of /net failed (45) hfs: unmount initiated on OS X Base System on device disk6s2 hfs: unmount initiated on MacOSX-Users on device disk4s2 syncing disks... Killing all processes hfs: unmount initiated on MacOSX-Applications on device disk3s2 hfs: unmount initiated on CloverBoot on device disk0s2 hfs: unmount initiated on MacOSX-System on device unknown device Check the last line, for me it looks like the main device (my SSD with the OSX system installed on) cant be unmounted because OSX doesnt know the physical device anymore and therefor im pretty sure im stucked at this spinning wheel. Is there a way i can solve that issue? It should be said that im pretty new to those osx haxs :-) What i have already tried to solve this: rebooted into installation and repaired disks, EFI and permissions read a lot about shutdown fixes like kexts and that, but depending of the last line of my verbose shutdown im sure its not related to these issues like "it shutdown but the led's and fans keep running" System Info: ASRock Extreme 11 X79 OSX 10.10.5 SSD for CloverBoot PCIe SATA SSD for MacOSX-System HDD for MacOSX-Applications HDD for MacOSX-Users Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310429-yosemite-10105-doesnt-rebootshutdown/ Share on other sites
Klondike Kat
Thanks for your response. I tried that evoreboot kext but wasnt expecting any success as this seems to be related to a non known device hardware ID during shutdown/reboot. The system seems not to be able to unmount the system drive and therefore hangs. Check the last entry from my verbose shutdown. I also noticed that during verbose boot the same drive gets automatically checked and repaired everytime i boot. Ill grab that ouput too and post it here. However evoreboot seems not to solve my problem here :-( Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310429-yosemite-10105-doesnt-rebootshutdown/#findComment-2207682 Share on other sites
Klondike Kat
I did a verification, the disk seems to be okay. I didnt get any red or yellow dot nor did i get any errors. However this is what i got during boot now (on every boot!!): hfs: mounted MacOSX-System on device root_device VM Swap Subsystem on ON USBMSC Identifier (non-unique): 0x0000000000 Darwin Bootstrapper Version 2.0.2 ** /dev/rdisk5s2 (NO WRITE) ** Root file system **Executing fsck_hfs (version hfs-285) ** /dev/rdisk5s2 ** Root file system **Executing fsck_hfs (version hfs-285) ** Checking non-journaled HFS Plus Volume The volume name is MacOSX-System ** Checking extents overflow files ** Checking catalog file ** Checking multi-linked files ** Checking catalog hierachy Invalid directory item count (It should be 1283 instead of 1178) ** Checking extended attributes file ** Checking volume bitmap ** Checking volume information ** Repairing volume ** Rechecking volume ** Checking non-journaled HFS Plus Volume The volume name is MacOSX-System ** Checking extents overflow files ** Checking catalog file ** Checking multi-linked files ** Checking catalog hierachy ** Checking extended attributes file ** Checking volume bitmap ** Checking volume information ** Trimming unused blocks ** The volume MacOSX-System was repaired successfully **** The volume was modified **** hfs: Removed 25 orphaned / unlinked files and 17 directories Warning: couldnt block sleep during cache update Warning: proceeding w/o DiskArb /dev/disk5s2 on / (hfs, local) * * * * hfs: mounted CloverBoot on device disk0s2 hfs: mounted OS X Base System on device disk6s2 hfs: mounted MacOSX-Users on device disk2s2 hfs: mounted MacOSX-Applications on device disk3s2 This differs from boot to boot a bit but it repairs the disk on every disk which i guess is not normal :-) SoftRAID said about MacOSX-System: SoftRAID Task Complete A disk has been verified successfully. All the sectors on this disk are readable and teh disk is functioning normally Disk description: disk5, SATA bus 0, ID5, 512 GB Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310429-yosemite-10105-doesnt-rebootshutdown/#findComment-2208334 Share on other sites
