biatx
Hi. I'm planning on purchasing a motherboard with Intel 946GZ chipset but i wanted to know first if someone was somehow able to get decent graphics (QE/CI) with the builtin GMA3000. I saw all the other threads about it, but things might have changed by now, and I wanted to focus on the issue of GMA3000 support in OSX86 specifically. Is it a mistake to buy a mobo with this chipset ? Or will support for it eventually arrive ? Have you succeeded with any hack? thks!
PPC junkie
I was gonna ask the same question, how ever it seems 946 chipset is in the entry level league, with minimal RAM slots, etc...... and QE/CI performance would be as good as GMA900 or 950 level. NOT good for Gaming or high end stuff.
biatx
yeah i know, but i just wanted some intel graphics for their open source drivers (this mobo is for my personal lab), i don't need it to play any games
PPC junkie
There isn't much difference between 945/946 chipsets except the later has overclocked GMA950. If you are looking for C2D support, You might wanna check Intel D945GCL.... and Gigabyte ones even one with GMA X3000, check intel's site for that info. as of now only 2 intel 946 mobo's exist..... so driver support might be an issue. Galen
I have a 946GZ mobo with a GMA 950 (yes, a GMA 950, not an X3000) - everything except the graphics is working. Anybody else had any luck? It seems like there should be no significant difference... yet something is broken.
