Hello!

I broke my El Capitan installation! :-)

To install El Capitan 10.11.0, I only had to launch installer from Yosemite, as I would have done on a real Mac. (I'm still using a test SSD on which I had cloned my working Yosemite install.)

So when 10.11.1 has been published, I launched the update from the Mac App Store. It's what I've been doing for a few updates anyway, as I'm not using any exotic kext on my system partition, instead using Clover to inject my GPU device ID and settings, and also inject FakeSMC and RealtekRTL81xx kexts.

Though this time, I had a "forbidden" icon on a black screen during installation, which shows again after reboot. If I reboot in verbose, I get:

Error loading kernel cache (0x1b)
Boot failed, sleeping for 10 secondes before exiting...

I only have those 2 lines on the screen, nothing else. After 10 s, nothing happens.

I press Escape to come back to Clover's GUI, I press Space on the El Capitan entry, then choose "Boot Mac OS X without caches", and I get nearly the same message: only 0xe replaces 0x1b.

I've searched with this error message but found nothing relevant to me.

Any idea? :-)

I had the same result with single user or any of the modes available with Clover.

I've solved the problem with the prelinkedkernel from the El Capitan installer that someone sent me.

Thank you anyway. :)

Ehm..

Could you share the prelinked kernel from El Capitan... I'm afraid I am in the exact same situation..

Wonder if anybody can assist me here. Possibly the prelinked kernel may be worth trying. I tried so many times to create a bootable usb El Capitan usb but kept getting errors including not finding a kernel, can't find boot file etc. What has me gobsmacked is that I inadvertently discovered that all 3 attempts (createinstallmedia/disk X 5/#####) were in fact booting but only on a macpro. They were supposed to be hackintoshed installations but will not boot on any dell. hp, acer to name a few motherboards that I have wanted to use.

Here is the prelinkedkernel I used:

essaie de reconstruire ton cache El Cap depuis Yosemite

au pire, recopie le fichier prelinkedkernel  depuis l'installeur vers ta partition El Cap et redémarre

recopie ce attachicon.gifprelinkedkernel_10.11.1.zip vers /System/Library/PrelinkedKernels et redémarre.
