Hi everyone,

I've heard rumours that, under x86, PCI in general isn't supported. None of my PCI devices appear under Tiger, and I'm not convinced it's a driver thing. My AGP graphics ard shows up properly, but my PCI SoundBlaster 5.1 is just not there, nor is my onboard sound, nor onboard network. I can't put my finger on why. Nothing shows up in System Profiler under PCI cards. So, is it true that standard PCI won't work with Tiger? My motehrboard is an ASRock P4VT8+ with a P4 Prescott 2.8 and 512MB DDR-400. I know PCI-e will work, but I ain't got the cash to upgrade.

Thanks,

Damocles

Not all devices show up in system profiler anyway thats normal but I don't think you would have OS X running at all if PCI wasn't supported. Most things can be patched to work it just takes a liitle research but largely depends on the particular hardware device.

My 3com nic works fine. Must have kext out of the box as I didn't have to do any thing to make it work. Funny thing is I tried XPx64 and no drivers for that. Go figure that out.

Don

I have 2 firewire pci cards, a pci sound card and pci (x16) add2 display card all working since 10.4.3 ( I'm now on 10.4.8)

Unsupported cards that don't work may not show up in system profiler. Some unsupported cards can be used with hacked drivers. Search the wiki and forums for the name of the card you want to use.
