As i have stated before I am interested in getting a MacBook / MacBook Pro Does anyone have any info on when the new Core 2 Duo Should be arriving and what are the Differences between the Two, I rang Apple Store and Micro Anvika and neither could give me any info on either.. Seems i know as much as they do.

I dont want to get one only to find a week later the newer Core 2 Duos arrive.

There is supposedly about a 20% difference between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo. As for between the books, if you don't play alot of new games or don't need the LCD size, go for the cheaper MacBook as long as you can find out if it was made recently so it will not have the heatsink problems the early ones had where they would shut off randomly. The actual speed rating between the processors is so minimal in terms of preformance I would not worry about it. And if you are going to upgrade the RAM from 512 to 1GB do it through the Apple site because it is much cheaper and easier that way than taking apart the Book.

If you want to play it safe I'd wait til after the holiday season. There's been talk for new ones coming in November but who knows. I really don't think the Core 2 Duo is going to be all that great, but maybe worth waiting a month or two. I wouldn't worry about getting a MacBook that has the older heatsink. There probably aren't any left, or atleast I wouldn't think so. I don't see why Apple would wait any longer to start selling core 2 Duo laptops so the November/December time frame is what I would guess.

I have Read on a site, Cant remember which that the Core 2 Duos have EMT64 64 bit support and the Core Duo 1 Does not is this true or just an uninformed misconception.?

Also Does the Core Duo 1 have the Wide Dynamic Execution Engine, i.e support 128bit decoding of instruction like the Velocity Engine.. is this where the Extra 20% comes in to the equation.?

Im just Trying to cover all things , if they Both are the Same and only real difference is the Power consumption i would not be to botherd and would get wither one.

Its just that ill be giving some dollar to my sister to pick me one up from new york around the 17th of november, Sadly i cant get the Visa i applied for (Due to me having a Criminal Record) as they consider me a immigrant ^_^ , apparently i dont have enough ties in the U.K to Keep me here. Only my Life and My Family.. Why on earth would i want to Live in America anyway.

Actually we had one come in the show with the heatsink problem Friday that was just sold two weeks ago so I guess some of the stock is still out there. If you really need a native OSX laptop, get one, otherwise don't worry about it because they are more speedy than the G4s but now even close to an iMac. I thought about one but just decided to build a new hackintosh and pick up a used PC laptop to satisfy the need for email/movies/audio on the go. And it was still cheaper! As for the rest of the stuff, I really couldn't tell you. The 20% I think was a chip vs chip comparison for just general preformance.

itmandan >> you heard right. Core 2 Duo is 64 bit, Core Duo (1) is 32 bit. Also, Core 2 Duo has Wide Dynamic Execution Engine. The bad thing is that Core 2 Duo *might* need a little more power than Core Duo.

I am waiting myself for the holiday season and see what apple does. I want something like MB, but with a little batter videocard. Something like nv geforce go 7400 would be fine. So I'm thinking between MBP and the MB that i think will be launched in april-may 2007 with santa rosa.

gma X3000 video, 800MHz fsb, wwan, wimax, 802.11n, 1gb flash on the mb, maybe hybrid hdd.

So as Leopard will be Fully 64bit compatible, the Current MacBook and MackBook Pro would not be able to take full advantage of this. !!!! Apple is so, so sneaky.

Could a Core Duo 2 Processor be placed in the Current Mac Laptops.?

Sadly i do not think apple will be getting any of my money until they make the Transition to Core 2 Duos.. if i can resist long enough... but i want one so bad i might buy a Macbook Pro now (November) and then save for a newer MacBook Pro

Appears the Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro are out.. , Yes Been waiting for this one, gonna get one picked up in New York for me, Save myself a few bob.

Better Value as well with 1 Gig Ram / 120 Gb HD and a 6 Speed Super Drive now on the 15" entry level model
