Morgan Posted October 20, 2006 Share Posted October 20, 2006 Hi boys! I'm semi-new to installing OS X on x86. I've done it before and I know it worked wonderfully. Although it was way way back when doing this was quite new, so it's been some time. I've been doing some reading on the wiki and forums. I am now very much interested in getting this installed again, I just need to get rid of windows. I am hoping it can be done because if not then I am looking at having to buy the 24" iMac or the MacPro. Alright so, here's what I have: AMD Athlon64 3500+ 4GBs RAM PC-3200 LanParty UT nf4 Sony DVD burner SATA II drive - currently NTFS SATA drives - NTFS Some onboard sound card One thing I did see on the forums was SATA does/doesn't work - seemed to be a mixed response. It looks like I might need a Myzar CD?? So maybe you guys could help me out and point me in the right direction of yes this will work or no go buy a MacPro!! I would just hate to not use the hardware I've got!! I really appreciate any help whatsoever. I know it worked once, but I've been out of it too long to know anything useful now! I ended buying a mac pro! -- its scarely fast, and i dont think i use it to it's full potential! games run like a dream and so does windows!!! Looks like you have an nForce4 SATA controller. No, it is not really compatible with OSX. Only a few people have gotten it to work on OSX and almost all of them had problems with corrupt data. You should install OSX on a PATA drive. A 20 GB drive should be able to be found for next to nothing. Some people with AMD prefer a Myzar DVD. But most any recent (10.4.6, 10.4.7) install DVD will work. Why not give it a try to see if it will work. THEN decide whether you want to buy a MacPro. I think I have a couple sitting around, if not they're easy & cheap enough to come by. Does this mean, none of my SATA drives will work? The other issue I have is getting the right DVD. I don't think we're allowed to discuss such things, but I know the right people who should know what's the right stuff. I also have a feeling that my sound card won't work either... Gentoo is far better then any of those distributions of Linux. Mandrake is disgrace to Linux...Ubuntu is too n00bed out for me Now that I think about it though, I cannot use Linux because I need iTunes...argh, why can't this work nicely!! Maybe I will need that MacPro Not sure why installing OSX onto a PATA drive forces you to also install Linux, but it is your decision.
