matthewlesliepierce2012
Hello all. My name is Matthew Pierce, and I recently purchased a used, Late 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch from a guy off of Craigslist. Now, I am not intending to break forum protocol by posting this, and fully expect to be corrected if it is not ok for me to both introduce myself as well as post a question at the same time. This is a 2.4 ghz MacBook Pro. Very nice computer, only, there is an issue. When I got it, the guy told me that he was using FaceTime when all of the sudden the Macbook internal display just went black. He put the thing in his drawer and left it there until deciding to sell it. I got it, replaced the display assembly just for kicks, which did not work. Took the barred out and saw no indication of obvious damage. The computer works great on an external monitor. Keys light up. I'm typing this on the MacBook in question while looking at my eternal monitor. I rest the PRAM, SMC, tried booting into every mode. Cleaned the dust from the fan. And probably even did a mojo filled dance in order to appease the Mac Gods, but alas, nothing. I am getting the impression that, though there's no obvious cause, it's probably the logic board. No, I cannot see anything on the display with a bright light. It is simply not on. All wires, internally, are plugged in. I physically checked over the entire system. Only thing I have not done is pull the board and check with a meter. My hope, though fleeting, is that someone out there has been through this, and has found a solution. Hopefully I do not get kicked out of this forum for posting like a noob in the wrong way. vusun123
Apple has a special program in which they fix your specific line of Macbook for free. Bring it to Apple Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/306431-late-2011-macbook-pro-question/#findComment-2140760 Share on other sites
matthewlesliepierce2012
Not for the 13" they don't, not according to the friendly fellow I spoke to on the phone with Apple. Only the 15" and 17" get the free fix. Which leads me to think that my issue falls in another area altogether. It would figure anyway, considering my usual luck. Maybe he, and I are mistaken. I hope so, because that would be good, but I doubt it pretty severely.
