seahome
***Problem is solved by updating the bios to the newest version through the acer euro ftp site.******** ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/ Hope this will help to other who may has problems with their acer laptop with similar problems ******************************************************************************** ****** #######The following is the original USB problem found in Acer TM4202WLMi with OSX 10.4.7/10.4.8 with/without apple USB Debug Kit###################### ##################################################################### I just installed OSX 10.4.7 (Jas) natively on acer TM 4202WLMi laptop. Most of things go smoothly except a few problems. One of them is the USB port. It can recognize my usb mouse, but when I plug the mouse out and replug in, it doesn't work. And the USB portable drive works only if it plug in before system start up and it doens't work after plug out and replug in, which make all usb ports un-hot-plugable. After I check the system.log, I found that: USBF: 89.753 EHCI controller unable to take control from BIOS USBF: 89.753 AppleUSBEHCI [0x1842000]: unable to obtain ownership:0xe00002be USBF: 89.753 AppleUSBEHCI [0x1842000]: UIMInitialize -Error occured (0xe00002be) USBF: 89.753 AppleUSBEHCI: unable to initialize UIM The followings get from linux lspci -n #------------------ 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #1 (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [uHCI]) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Unknown device 0090 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 20 I/O ports at 1820 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #2 (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [uHCI]) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Unknown device 0090 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 19 I/O ports at 1840 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #3 (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [uHCI]) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Unknown device 0090 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18 I/O ports at 1860 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #4 (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [uHCI]) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Unknown device 0090 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17 I/O ports at 1880 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 20 [EHCI]) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Unknown device 0090 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 20 Memory at d0544000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [58] Debug port #------------------------------------------------------------------- How can I fix this USB problem?? Is that possible to fix this problem by updating the USB driver from apple websit? If so, how to? Thanks. Nickhamm
I had problems like thi son a deaktop system I installed OSx86 on. I had to DL the newest USB driver and install it from here: http://developer.apple.com/hardwaredrivers/download/usbdebug.html After a restart all of the ports worked just fine. Hopefully it will do the same for you. seahome
thank you. It doesn't work me. the problem is still there. I heard that 10.4.7 (jas) still use the 10.4.4 kernel. I guess an kernel update may solve the problem, but I don't know how to update kernel now.
