Jonathan Ryan
I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 and am using Deadmoo's image. I cannot boot natively. I get "still waiting on root deviece" no matter what flags I use. OSx86 is the only thing on the disk. I can make any changes you think are necessary to the disk itself, because I ahve an adapter to plug it into my desktop. I've seen people with dual-boot success with this laptop, but none of them mentioned ever having to work around this problem. I tried a fix that involved copying several kext's from the Darwin CD, but it made no difference. Also, what is the difference between the mach_kernel and mach_kernel.old files? grockk
I seem to recall a number of people having problems booting from USB on the 5100. I couldn't get it to work on my i5100, so i installed on a seperate partition on the same boot drive.

I placed the internal hard drive into my desktop with an ATA adapter to do the imaging, so OSX is on the first partition. What image did you use?
