HBP Posted August 27, 2014 Share Posted August 27, 2014 that is the 'Special' partition apple sets up to rebuild the HDD should a full system failure happen, it has enough brains to make a network connection and download the rest of the OS as well as tools like diskutil so that you can do offline disk checks and repairs to the file system.
