moomoo
Hi, I've got a inspiron 1200/latitude 110L with GMA915 Video. It requires the VGA dongle (bridge pins 1<->6 and 2<->12) to use the internal display. It also has issues with sleep/suspend/standby mod where it will wake up and sometimes be on the second display and also invert the mouse cursor for the trackpad. I tried using insomnia.kext to keep the display from causing the system to standby, however there is another issue in my case where the laptop will not turn on the display after closing the lid with insomnia.kext loaded! However I found that if I set the display sleep time to 1 minute it *will* wake the display if I wait 1 minute after I open the lid and then wake the lcd from sleep mode after it activates it. Even better: if I use FN+ESC which would normally put my laptop into stand by mode. Standby mode works and wakes up correctly with no cursor problems!! Thus, as long as I load insomnia.kext after starting up my laptop, I am able to successfully place the laptop into sleep mode using the FN+ESC combination! Hopefully this will help at the very least other people with dell laptops that have been dealing with the same problem as I have. If you have any other solutions please feel free to append them here! Thanks and good luck! ~ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29912-possible-fix-for-gma915dongle-sleep-problems/ Share on other sites
moomoo
UPDATE: I found a small switch inside the right display hinge. This is the 'lid close' switch and there is a small piece of plastic that triggers it when the lid is closed, and thus puts the laptop into standby. I broke off this piece of plastic and now can close the lid without the system sleeping, thus no need for Insomnia.kext! I just set the laptop to turn off the display/backlight after 5 minutes. On top of that if I press the Standby button it sleeps the laptop and wakes up correctly with no inverted mouse issues! Now I have a perfectly working hackbook!
