Dow Hurst
Followed posted procedure by MSoK to install a fresh dmg of OS X 10.9 into unlocked VMware 10.0.2. Had updated vmware tools after finishing the installation with the darwin.iso from the latest posted version taken from Fusion 6.0.3; this was because VMware 10.0.2 broke original darwin.iso in Unlocker 1.3. Installed VMsvga2_v1.2.5_OS_10.9.pkg and guestd_patches.pkg to improve virtual video card performance. Mavericks is patched from the appstore too. The last problem to be solved is making sound intelligible. The guest VM has the sound card set to ALSA: HDA Intel. In the host, a Dell XPS m1530, the sound card is listed as a STAC9228. When I first had sound in the guest set to autodetect, I would get no sound at all. Now that the guest sound card is set to ALSA: HDA Intel, I hear sound but it is like static with a pitch that rises and falls with what sound is being produced. So, if I test play the different voices from OS X's accessibility section for announcing the time, I hear the words and pauses in between. However, nothing can be understood since the produced sound is like a buzzing bee in a trashcan. I appreciate any help or advice. Reading through posts on the forum, it seems that some people have real trouble getting any sound. When running Windows 7 as a guest, I do not have sound problems. In fact, I use iTunes in that VM to manage my library of music and with headphones I can enjoy quite good sound output. Thanks so much for your time!
