Nobatron
Hi, I've decided to take my first stray into Hackintosh. I will be ordering a compatible Ivybridge board and a new SSD. Upon attempting to download the Mavericks installer on my work's Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro I was presented with a message saying 'OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer'. Is there a way I can force the download of this? I think the error is because the version of Mavericks on this computer is newer than the one on the App store. aol
You are correct, the late 2013 rMBP uses a custom Mavericks install and you can not download it through the App Store yet. One option is to wait for 10.9.2, which should unify the installer for all Macs. If you download the 10.9.1 installer I'm not even positive it will work with a Hackintosh, but here is the start of what you need to do to download it: Follow the tip at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1688086 that talks about creating a bootable USB stick for a late 2013 rMBP, but what you really need is the InstallESD.dmg. I think most of the apps that create a bootable USB stick for Hackintoshes require an InstallESD.dmg. If they require the actual Install Mavericks app, you might need to manufacture one and move the InstallESD.dmg inside it.
