Bamboo
Hello, First, sorry for this post being almost a copy/paste from "that other forum". I didn't realize that Voldermort was probably a Gigabyte employee undercover. So, my issue: three months ago, I bought a GA-Z87X-UD3H (rev. 1.x) with four modules of Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz DDR3 (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9).The modules are recognized by default as 1333Mhz modules. I enabled to XMP Profile 1 in order to make it work at 1600MHz. The problem is that the motherboard becomes very unstable. The computer freezes every four hours or so. I tried everything possible (changing timings, overvoltage of the RAM, etc.). The best I was able to achieve was 3 days and 13 hours @1333Mhz. Then it froze again. I'm using the latest BIOS (F7, dated August 8th, 2013).Now I'm sure that the problem lies with the memory (I've checked everything in the last two months, from network to USB controllers), I dug deeper and found that the problem is widely documented: the GA-Z87X-UD3H (and apparently all z87-series Gigabyte motherboards) can't take more than two memory slots while staying stable. It doesn't look like Gigabyte is planning to address the issue, judging by the beta BIOSes (F8j sucks even more). I contacted Amazon, they agree to refund the Motherboard, but not the RAM modules. So my best bet is to try and find another brand of motherboard (ASUS? ASRock?) that works well as a Hackintosh (the machine's sole OS is Mavericks).I don't need a lot of features from my motherboard (and I *hate* Gigabyte's graphical hybrid BIOS/UEFI). I need an Intel 4600 GPU, USB 3.0, a Gigabyte Ethernet network adapter and a compatible sound card.Is there a suitable replacement (by that I mean as good as the GA-Z87X-UD3H and that doesn't need any DSDT -- it has to work out of the box) for this mobo from other brands? 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/294726-suitable-replacement-for-a-gigabyte-ga-z87x-ud3h-rev-1x-motherboard/ Share on other sites
StoneTemplePilots
... and I *hate* Gigabyte's graphical hybrid BIOS/UEFI ... Yeah, me too. Most ugly development and even very unprofessional, there's no other mainboard vendor releasing so many beta bios {censored}, as gigabyte does! But that's just my personal oppinion resulting from experience with them. Never again for me. I can recommend ASUS, but without using a custum DSDT you won't ever get maximum performance out of the box. The Intel GPU 4600 is CPU built-in! So, all you need is a board with DVI/HDMI XMP Profile 1 in order to make it work at 1600MHz. The problem is that the motherboard becomes very unstable. Most likely a voltage problem which causes instability due to a week slew rate. I had exactly the same trouble with some UEFI versions on my Z77-D3H. I had to downgrade to an earlier UEFI version to make the Corsair XMP profile work. Before it crashed with bluescreen on windows, or just froze IF it did boot. Sometimes just black screen on turning on the PC. Anyway I'm not willing to mess around with gigabyte. It's poor development, cheapest components compared to the packing. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/294726-suitable-replacement-for-a-gigabyte-ga-z87x-ud3h-rev-1x-motherboard/#findComment-1977680 Share on other sites

I'd like to go with a good motherboard, embarking quality components. I have absolutely zero experience with ASUS Hackintoshing (I guess that other site brainwashed me a bit too much), but if it runs so well, I can live with a DSDT. Is the ASUS Z87-PLUS C2 the best choice for my needs? I've got an ASUS P8H67M PRO on my Windows 7 PC and it runs like a champ, I still have to experience its first BSOD. So I'm pretty convinced that the build quality of ASUS motherboards is night and day when comparing to Gigabyte's, but then again, I lived for years with the idea that Hackintoshing == Gigabyte. I'm out of the cult! Maybe the Z87-PRO would be a better choice, but it doesn't support C2-stepping, which leaded to one bad review @amaz0n for the moment. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/294726-suitable-replacement-for-a-gigabyte-ga-z87x-ud3h-rev-1x-motherboard/#findComment-1977761 Share on other sites

I've ordered the Z87-PLUS C2 (should arrive the day after Christmas). From what I've read, my current Chimera installation won't boot on it. What to you recommend as a bootloader? Is there as specific DSDT for this board? Since everything looks supported at first glance, what do I miss if I do not use a DSDT? Power management, maybe?
