Hi everyone, was hoping I wouldn't have to start a topic but I got stuck today and I've been getting some what fustrated upon installing/setting up my Hackintosh.

I have a spare Dell XPS 8100 laying around so I thought I would turn it in to a Hackintosh. So my issues.... I previously had ML installed on my 'main XPS 8100' which had the wireless adaptor installed, I managed to install this along with sound (no issues there). But on my spare machine I only have ethernet, I can install this correctly and I get internet but soon as I reboot I get the message 'cable unplugged'. No matter what kexts I use or try re-installing the kexts I cannot get the ethernet to detect my internet.

I have;

Broadcom Ethernet Device ID: 1692 (which I believe uses the BCM5787m kext, but ##### installs this all for me)

Also throughout all my personal learning of hackintosh I've never been able to install a bootloader that works (I've used ##### to no effect, I can select the OS but the loading screen is of lower reso and then I get the forbiden sign and it hangs) - I can only boot by using the USB.

Right now my biggest problem is loosing the internet after rebooting, and it seems to be quite common, yet I haven't been able to fix it. I've checked this forum as well as other using different kexts and installing them using (Kext Wizard), but I am getting know where.

Any help will be appreciated it.

Thanks

1692 NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe

1693 NetLink BCM5787M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express

If your device id is 1692, I can’t find any kext for BCM57780.  But I do know about one for BCM57781 that works on Mav.  It might work for you.  You would have to open up the kext and go to the internal Broadcom kext and add your device id to it:  http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/293010-video-card-and-ethernet-on-asrock-z77-extreme-4/?p=1958509

For your boot problem, boot without the USB but use boot flag -v.  When the boot hangs, take a picture and post it.

No extra folder on USB, but I have just booted in safemode (-x) and the internet is connected......

Right that's weird..... The safe mode had some how fixed the internet issue, just restarted and its connected. (I have heard of that working for someone else, though I've only just tried it myself, so I hope this helps someone to!)
