Recently I bought a Dell SC440 Server with the intention of making it a Linux based usenet downloader/web server/home media server/video transcoder system, but I found that Ubuntu wasn't playing nicely with Leopard, so I thought that I would try OSX on it.

Original Spec:

Intel Dual Core Xeon 2.13GHz

1GB ECC RAM

250 GB Hard Disk

DVD Drive

1Gbps NIC

I thought 1GB wouldnt be too good, so when I ordered my first 500GB Samsung Hard Disk, I also bought 2GB RAM. I then found that it wasn't ECC, so I had to get that replaced. I'm waiting on 2GB ECC RAM to push my RAM up to 3GB. I've also since ordered another 500GB Hard Disk. I have a GeForce 8500GT 512mb Graphics Card waiting for me to chop up to be able to put into my 4x PCI-E slot. I found that I have no chance of ever making my ethernet port working in OSX, so I bought a Linksys WMP300N PCI card.

Potential Spec on Monday/Tuesday:

Intel Dual Core Xeon 2.13GHz

3GB ECC RAM

250 GB System Disk

1 TB RAID striped in OSX 'Media'

DVD Drive

External DVD Writer

Linksys WMP300N Wireless N Card

Griffin iMic USB Sound Card

Installation Process:

So far it has been:

-Download Leo4All v3

-Burn onto DVD

-Install on 250GB Disk

-Used Vanilla Kernel, recommended software, nVidia Graphics drivers

-Reboot

-Still waiting on Root Device :graduated:

-Went into the BIOS, found I couldnt change SATA operation to AHCI, so Booted Leo4All again, went to the terminal and copied every kext with ATA in its name, chowned and chmodded them and then rebooted with -f.

-Success :dev: just no network, poor onboard graphics still and no sound.

-2nd 500GB Hard Disk and Wireless N card arrived.

-Hard Disk needs a SATA cable (bum) installed the Wireless N card.

-Needed to edit an Info.plist to get the card working as an Airport Extreme card.

So far I'm liking it. I can't wait for the display to suit my 22" 1600x1050 TFT as it looks a bit disgusting. I also need to update OSX soon too.
