theblackpowerranger
Ill start off with an explanation I used to have windows til just yesterday it decided it wasnt gonna work anymore, i go searching through my pile of cds and i find my windows disc, covered in filth and scratched beyond repair. So i wonder what i can do, i call my buddy and ask if he has a disc that i can use, and he brings me the Jas 10.4.7. I slap him and tell him i have no use with this and he starts to explain that it will run on my PC because its SSE3. So i put the disc in and give it a go (keep in mind i have no idea what im doing). I figured that the disc would have a formatting utility for my harddrives but i figured wrong. Oh well, i keep trucking, i start to go through the installation steps until i get to the part that asks me which drive i wanna use. Well, its hard to select a drive when theres nothing to select from. So either my drives arent being recognized because theyre not formatted or maybe its because theyre SATA. So i threw in an old IDE harddrive, just for a test. It doesnt recognize that either. So ive realized that its obviously not gonna recognize them due to their format, although i was hoping it would see the NTFS and ask me to reformat it for mac use. Heres what im wondering. How exactly do i format my drives for OSX use? Is there another program that will do it? The only ways ive seen are for setting OSX up on a drive partition, and going towards a dual OS, when i only want the OSX on my system. Is it possible to setup JUST OSX on a system or do i need windows as well, for partition purposes. I have 3 harddrives in my system right now, all of which are SATA. Will that make it harder for me? The Baron
How exactly do i format my drives for OSX use? Use Ultimate boot CD to format drive fat32 and set active Is there another program that will do it? Linux boot CDs Is it possible to setup JUST OSX on a system or do i need windows as well, for partition purposes. Yes, JUST OSX would be fine. I have 3 harddrives in my system right now, all of which are SATA. Will that make it harder for me? Not sure about SATA support, I set my SATA to IDE in the BIOS. Have a search for your MB on here, or use an IDE drive. theblackpowerranger
okay so i found an old IDE drive floating around and i formatted it to fat32, and success, or so i thought. I got it to install but now when i go to boot it hangs at the loading screen, and eventually gives me a small striked out circle. Not sure why. Anyone have any ideas? Rammjet
when i go to boot it hangs ...and eventually gives me a small striked out circle. During installation, right before clicking the Install button, you must first click the Customize button and choose packages for your computer. Click the little arrow in front of the patches category to reveal the individual packages. Choose Intel or AMD packages, not both. Choose SSE2 or SSE3, not both, depending upon the capability of your processor. Choose the Combo Update to end up with the latest OS version. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=4499 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/28569-formatting-my-drives-for-1047/#findComment-196083 Share on other sites

Rammjet
Very few people have gotten it to work and those who did, most had data corruption when data is written to the disk. Find a PATA drive for your OSX installation. theblackpowerranger
it does, i was wondering if there was a safe way to go about using it, but i suppose not, ill just wait it out til my hd's are compatible i suppose, patch after patch should involve my chipset, nforce4 sli, plus im still waiting on macvidia to get back up so i can get my vid drivers installed 1024x768 is starting to bother my eyes, everything is so big Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/28569-formatting-my-drives-for-1047/#findComment-196488 Share on other sites
Rammjet
but i suppose not, ill just wait it out til my hd's are compatible i suppose, patch after patch should involve my chipset, nforce4 I wouldn't hold my breath. I know of no real effort to write nForce4 SATA drivers. Almost all of the drivers in use now involve patching an existing Apple driver. Apple doesn't make an nForce driver - that is why someone tried to hijack the VIAATA driver. Apple doesn't use nForce hardware, so they aren't going to be writing a driver for it. In fact, they don't use VIA hardware either, so they won't be making any improvements to the old VIAATA driver.
