You need a card with a supported chipset, most cheap cards don't have the chipset on them when sold and ethernet cards aren't very popular these days so your choices will be limited. Try a Rosewill RC-401-EX known to work OOB with Lion and reported to with ML but there's very little test data to go off for mountain lion. Have you tried lyx2mac ethernet kext?
