mikelaev
Hello, I currently have a semi-working 18 TB Ubuntu server that I want to decommision in favour of a Hackintosh server. I am aware of the other alternatives likes FreeNAS and unRaid, but I am set on a OSX based server. Ideally I'd like to run Lion, but would settle for Snow Leopard. I have built a Hackintosh HTPC in the past. What MOBO and SATA controller would you recommend? I wish to have 12 SATA ports. Thank You Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279907-hackintosh-server-12-drives/ Share on other sites
3.14r2
As for the mobo, it probably should be a server grade Intel mobo (I personally use an old Intel server board with Xeon CPUS with Snow Leopard; though it is used as a desktop - not as a server). I guess GIGABYTE too will perfectly do the job, but if you intend to leave the server ON 24/7, a server grade board might be a better chose. As for the disk controller it should definitely be a true hardware RAID controller like 3ware or ATTO. Check this link for more info. 12 port hardware RAID card could be quite expensive (new at least). mikelaev
The ASUS P5N7A-VM is the mobo I have in my current hackintosh that I was planning on using. This Highpoint RAID controller (http://www.highpoint-tech.cn/USA/rr2320.htm) looks like it would add 8 SATA ports and work natively in OSX. Will this work?
