After upgrading (via Software Update) to 10.7.3 from I think 10.7.2.. I've no sound.

What I tried:

1. Using the current Version of M-Beast (ALC Rollback, and the corresponding driver) - did not work

2. Googled for a special version of AppleHDA.kext - replaced it. in System/Library/Extensions and also in /Extras/Extensions - no change

3. Deleted the AppleHDA.kext (bad idea :D..)

I don't know how to get my sound back.. I know I should have saved an image or the extensions ... but after all the time.. I forgot that I have an hackintosh :D :D

I have an ALC888 OnBoard Sound Card part of the Gigabyte P55-USB3-F8 V1... In a blog I read about a guy who has the same board and it worked for him after ######.. but not for me.. I hope you guys can help.. because I don't want to reinstall Lion ^^

Thx

P.S. why is M-Beast xxx out?

1. How did you initially install 10.7.2 where you had sound working?

2. Don't forget that some of the things you have tried in the past may install enablers that interfere with the operation of new things you try. For instance, VoodooHDA doesn't usually stop OSX from booting unless there is AppleHDA installed and enablers installed. Look for things like HDAEnabler.kext and ALC8XX.kext (the spelling may vary) in /Extra/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions. Having these leftovers installed may stop you from finding a new useful solution. If you find these enablers installed, you might try removing them and then re-trying VoodooHDA again.

I had a running Lion System and had about 5 extensions installed. Everything worked well with the corresponding DSTD for my board.

Last time I've updated. I did it manually and saved all my kext and settings... after the update I used m u l t i beast to install the kexts again.

But this time (a long time after the last update) I totally forgot this step (everything was fine ^^). And now.. no sound.

I've also installed a new chimera version (after having no sound) but nothing changed.

At the first time my extensions where in Extra/Extensions and now there are all in System/Library/Extensions due to the Migration in #####.

I am wondering about the new folder called Extras in my root dir..

Extras/Contents/

+ MacOS

+ Plugins

...

is this a part of the new chimera version? do I have to put the kexts in the plugin folder?

Chimera should install just like Chameleon and it would affect an Extra folder not an Extras folder. The format of the "Extras" folder resembles a kext. Maybe it is a leftover from one of the other sound installations you have tried.

But your original running Lion System…how did you create it? Did you use iAtkos L2? Did you use a boot CD and a retail DVD? Did you use the ##### system? The reason I'm asking, is if it was iAtkos, I can extract the two ALC 888 packages from iAtkos L2 and if you make sure all other sound kexts/enablers are gone, you can run the install packages and be back to where you were with 10.7.2. If you used some other method to get sound in 10.7.2, I may or may not be able to find the installation packages.

Why don't we try the ALC888 packages from iAtkos L2 anyway. There are two packages. Be sure you have removed AppleHDA.kext, VoodooHDA.kext and any enabler kexts from Extra or /S/L/E/

alc8xx.pkg contains ALC8xx.kext and AppleHDA1062.kext.

hdae888.pkg contains HDAEnabler888.kext.

Double-click to install both packages. The above files will be installed in /S/L/E/.

alc8xx.pkg.zip

hdae888.pkg.zip

Do you get the sound icon in the top menu bar but just no sound? I find often after an update that I see the icon in the menu bar but I must go into Sound in System Preferences and reset my input and output channels before getting any sound.

If u have a edited DSDT installed, check first in system profiler if your layout-id 888 is injected.

Download the needed files : ALCHDASeries_Lion_V1.11.zip

Be sure your AppleHDA.kext is untouched.

Run

sudo perl -pi -e 's|\x85\x08\xec\x10|\x88\x08\xec\x10|g' /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleHDA

in terminal to patch AppleHDA for your Codec. *

Install ALCHDASeries.kext. (via Kext Utility).

Copy layout888.xml and Platforms.xml to /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/Resources/ . *

Update permissions and rebuild kext caches. (via KextUtility)

*these steps can also be done with HDA Wizard http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=266531.
