rlf
Let's assume you installed MySound.kext to /System/Library/Extensions. Boot using boot flag -s to get into single user mode. It will start to boot into a command line GUI. At the command line, type; mount -uw / cd /System/Library/Extensions rm -rf MySound.kext Reboot using boot flags -v -f Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/277482-black-screen-to-restart-how-to-undue-last-change/#findComment-1808718 Share on other sites

rlf
OK, that package installs AppleAzaliaAudio.kext. Do what I said above except use AppleAzaliaAudio.kext in place of MySound.kext. I went looking for the fix for that when I stumbled upon the sound fix which I tried and bang bang bang it shot me down... rlf
I'm not an authority on cheap video cards. I would suggest going to the wiki for Snow Leopard and find one that works "out of the box" (OOTB): http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.6.8#Graphics_Cards Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/277482-black-screen-to-restart-how-to-undue-last-change/#findComment-1808744 Share on other sites

rlf
Please provide the vendor id and device id. Go to /Applications/Utilities/System Information. On the left, click on Graphics. On the right look for Vendor and Device ID Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/277482-black-screen-to-restart-how-to-undue-last-change/#findComment-1812910 Share on other sites
paulette1234
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0422 and my sound isn't working either.not really a problem now but would eventually like it to work Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/277482-black-screen-to-restart-how-to-undue-last-change/#findComment-1812916 Share on other sites
rlf
OK, that is good. Now look in the /Extra folder for a file named com.apple.Boot.plist or org.chameleon.Boot.plist. Open it and look for an entry that says "GraphicsEnabler" and below it should be "yes". rlf
Well, there should be no reason the card doesn't work for you. Your device id is in the proper kext and you have the enabler set to yes. Try installing this additional enabler NVEnabler. Put it on your Desktop. Double-click it to unzip it. Then double-click it to install it. Reboot and be sure to use the boot flags -v -f (and any others you normally use). nvenabler.pkg.zip Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/277482-black-screen-to-restart-how-to-undue-last-change/#findComment-1812922 Share on other sites
paulette1234
Thanks I installed it but just did restart I don't understand boot flags or when to type that in. anyway I still only have one rez. I read about permissions and all that, should I have done that and how? rlf
Permissions were handled by the installer package. You don't understand boot flags???!!!??? They can be very important. When you boot, you probably see a screen with a chameleon at the top and an icon of your hard drive in the middle. When you see that, press any key to stop it from booting. Then type: -v -f and press <Enter> You will see a lot of text stream down the screen. paulette1234
I have done that before, but I have ibo ot and not the chameleon.not too sure but I will see if it does same thing. what do I type after I hit enter after the text streams down? that was fun I guess acording to this site insane.. I did the -v -f and it did indeed gibe me more resolutions...but when I tried to chane rez it blanked out my screen I hit restart and luckily it gave me back my screen but back to only one rez again wondering if plugging into the dvi port would be better.this card came with an adapter for that Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/277482-black-screen-to-restart-how-to-undue-last-change/#findComment-1813010 Share on other sites
rlf
Definitely try the DVI port. Also, try -v -f again and see if you get multiple resolutions again, even if only temporarily. rlf
Install it just like you did with NVEnabler - put the G41M_Files.zip on your Desktop and double-click it to unzip it. Find the AzaliaAudio.pkg in the Audio folder and double-click the pkg to install it. But, if it were me, I would go with the latest VoodooHDA.kext: http://code.google.c...oHDA.kext.2.7.3 Whatever you do, boot with -v -f.
