Adam Smith
Hi, I have a problem running OSx86 up to full resolution on my SyncMaster 710v montor. If I try "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32@60" at the boot prompt I get a blank screen saying "Invalid Refresh Rate, optimum resolution 1280x1024 at 60hz" which seems to be because the rate it tries is 76.1 hz, just outside the maximum for my display. The @60 should fix this but does not work as I have only a VESA 2.0 grahics adapter on the portable. I've tried DisplayConfigX to set the refresh rate up and it creates an xml file in /System/Library/Displays/... (attached) but caused the loginwindow application to crash on startup (see log below and attached) I've also tried SwitchResX but it seems it can not change the resolution for the default VGA driver which I am using as my adapter is not supported (ATI Radeon 9100 on HP nx9110). Does anybody have any other suggestions? Adam Smith
Hi, I've managed to take things a little further by downloading and installing the Callisto drivers (v006) for the ATI controller on my nx9110 portable. This stops DisplayConfigX crashing on restart but I still can't switch to 1280x1024. The road was a winding one. I had to enter the EDID string for the SynchMaster 710v into Callisto.kext/Contents/Info.plist to have the full range of the Display's resolutions available. You can get the EDID string from SwitchResX/Display/Export DDC or from Phoenix EDID Designer under Windows. Switching trashes the display however, the only way to recover from which is to move aside (rename to delete with a backup) files: /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist and/or ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.*.plist or deleting from this last file the first entry "/DisplaySets/0". The Saga continues... AS SyncMaster170v.txt
Adam Smith
Latest update... I've managed to boot to 1280x1024 using v008 Calliso but the display is garbled alas. It seems likely the driver is confused by the primary laptop display being 1024x768 and replicates the framebuffer to three overlaping places on the screen.. TRJS
I've tried DisplayConfigX to set the refresh rate up and it creates an xml file in/System/Library/Displays/... (attached) but caused the loginwindow application to crash on startup (see log below and attached) Ah, thanks for pointing out to that; I also tried DisplayConfigX, it also let my computer crash - but deleting that particular file saved me from installing OSX again...
