cmnk21
Hi guys, Noob here. So I have a install of 10.6.8 up and running with everything working except QE/CI. I have been through about 100 forum posts from a few years back and am having trouble finding a definitive resolution/quide for my problem. The installer I used is iAtkos S3v2. I choose the Nvidia drivers in the customize section during the install otherwise I would get a black screen after it booted. I was surprised to see that the 1920x1080 resolution was detected right away after the install but no QE/CI. I did a hackintosh a few years back on an Dell XPS M1330 and I remember I just had to add a line of code the "GraphicsEnabler." in the com.apple.boot.plist file. So I did that and no joy. After no joy, I removed the lines of code I added. I then started to search around and found like 4 or 5 different ways of enabling QE/CI, the most popular seeming to be the EFI string. So after searching the bowels of the net I finally found the program that finds EFIstring for my gtx260 (most links to the files needed are now dead.) I can link them should anyone else be looking for them. So I followed this guide http://osx86.co/archive/index.php/t-4057.html and still no joy. So my questions for the more experienced: 1. Am I using the correct method? 2. Is there something I am missing? Maybe a kext file or enabler? 3. I think part of the problem could be that I selected the Nvidia drivers at install - should I not have done that? Please let me know if you require more information. Thanks in advance to all who respond - I know this is an old graphics card that doesn't have the best support. I just cant afford a new on ATM. PookyMacMan
What you need to make sure is that you have you device ID in Snow Leopard's drivers if you use the EFI string. This link has a list of the graphics cards supported in Apple's SL drivers. If yours is not in there, you will have to manually insert your device ID. Let me know if you need to manually insert it and I'll show you how. When it booted I ended up with a black screen but I could here music playing. I then re-followed this guide to the letter http://osx86.co/archive/index.php/t-4057.html - I was then able to boot into OSX at 1024x768 resolution to complete the rest of the steps. I will say at the end of the guide copying the NV* kexts back into the /Extensions directory I received an error saying that 3 kexts did not install properly. Before rebooting i went into /System/Library/Extensions and copied the 3 kexts that failed to the desktop. I then Deleted them from /Extensions and re-loaded them using #####. After a reboot I had Full resolution with working QE/CI. Thanks for the assist.
