Hi

I have over the last few days been trying to install OS X 10.6 on my laptop. I'm using ##### by tonymac to boot the installer, and everything works just fine until I try updating to 10.6.8.

At the end of the 10.6.8 update I get KP and needs to restart, afterwards, I can't boot OS X.

After several tries, also including udpating to only 10.6.3, with the same result, I decided to give a recovery dvd from a Macbook Pro a chance, so I borrowed the recovery dvd from a friend of mine, and restored the contents to a USB pendrive, because I need to modify a file, to make installation on MBR partition table possible, as it will run on the same hard drive as Windows 7.

As the recovery media is 8.5GB in size and I only have a 8.05Gb pendrive, I decided to restore the retail dvd to the pendrive first, and then copy over the packages folder from the recovery dvd, and booted with that, but the program wouldn't let me install with the OSinstall.mpkg and OSinstall.pkg from the recoery media, so I used these files from the retail dvd.

I though that shouldn't be any problem at all, because the packages in /system/installation/packages were the same as them from the retail dvd, only in updated versions.

With these modifications, It installed as it should, but when booting on the hard drive after installation, it hangs at the end of the boot just like when installing the 10.6.8 combo update and get KP, and afterwards try booting the drive again.

I really hope someone can help me to figure out why my system won't run higher than SL 10.6.0.

I noticed that the kernel used by ##### is the 10.8.0 kernel from SL 10.6.8. Could this have any effect on the problem I have?
