could a wrong smbios be causing "unsupported card" to come up all the time and then make the system restart?

i went into currys the other day and looked at a macbook pro which was running 10.6.7. it is almost the same specs as my hp dv6-6176 but yet i cant seem to get anything running on mine.

only 2 differences is that the macbook pro has smbios 8,2 and the only one i can install from ##### is 8,1, and the macbook pro has a core i7 with hd3000 graphics where as mine has a core i3 with hd3000 graphics. ati graphics cards are the same (radeon 6490m).

i just dont understand why it wont run and just comes up with "unsupported card" everytime i try to boot from the hdd. when i boot from ##### legacy both the graphics are recognised but only the ati one is all correctly installed. the hd graphics say no kext loaded . also it says that i only have 64mb of shared memory in the HD3000 graphics!!

any ideas anyone?
