Davirus Posted October 12, 2011 Share Posted October 12, 2011 Hi, Im here with quite a simple question that is usually asked here but its my time: I am about to buy a PC specifically to run Mac OS Lion (I bought the USB Installer from the Apple Store). This are the PC Components: Hard disk: WESTERN DIGITAL 500 GB SATA WD5000AAKS/AAKX Memory: DDR3 ADATA 12 GB 1333 MHZ Mother board: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R V2.0 6xDDR3 2xPCIE2 SOC 1366 Processor: Intel Core i7 930 2.8 GHZ SOC 1366 Video Card: XFX HD-685X-ZNFC HD6850 4GHz 1GB GDDR5 PCIE2.1 DVD Drive: LG GH22NS70 22X SUPERMULTIDRIVE SATA For anyone asking, the price for this was: $1,235.4 So, my question is, someone knows if there is something that could go wrong with this computer? Im quite curios about the video card, I saw on the OSX86 wiki that it does work, but I found no information here in forum about that video card. Also as graphics designer I require some punch power on video performance, but I consider my self an ignorant about nowadays video card power (I have been using a laptop for about 5 years, so no hardware customization was needed in that time). So If any one knows a better video card which also works with Lion I yet can make changes on the PC before buy it definitely. So, any comments of any kind, are welcome. Davirus Posted October 13, 2011 Author Share Posted October 13, 2011 Also I can change the current video card for a "SAPPHIRE 314-3L HD6870-1GB GDDR5 PCI-E", but I'm not sure which one between 6850 and 6870 offers bigger performance and compatibility. Gringo Vermelho Posted October 13, 2011 Share Posted October 13, 2011 http://netkas.org/?p=798 Post is a bit old, a 6870 will work now (10.7.1/2) without installing anything from the iMac update. You still need ATY_Init.kext to have working DVD player, Steam etc. Also see http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,867.0.html (read the whole thread for more current information). Davirus Posted October 14, 2011 Author Share Posted October 14, 2011 Thanks. After reading those pages and other ones around there, I found that the 6870 is compatible OOB. As soon they send me the computer and as soon I figure out how install lion on it, I will post a thread about my review about this, but it looks that the computer will be compatible without any problem.
