Hi folks, I am totally new to OSx86, and Macintosh in general, and wonder if I could ask some advice re installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard on a VMWare Workstation VM on XP Pro SP3. I am teaching myself web design in my spare time and want to test on the Mac OS X platform as well as Windows and Linux. The PC I currently have is a bit old now, though it does everything I need to do, including running Windows 7 in a VM without any problems. The specs are :- Pentium 4 3GHz Northwood CPU + Intel motherboard with Springdale-G 865G chipset, 4GB RAM, Radeon X1650 Pro 512MB graphics, XP Pro SP3, and VMWare Workstation v7.1.4.

I am aware my CPU does not support Intel VT-x, nor SSE3.

I applied the VMWare Unlocker (windows.bat file) and it reported success. I also applied the VMware Hardware Virtualization Bypasser, and this removed the VMWare error re 'software virtualization'.

On booting up the Mac OS X VM I see the Apple logo briefly then get the error message :- 'A virtual CPU has entered the shutdown state. This means incorrect configuration of the virtual machine, an OS bug, or problem in VMWare.'

But - I noticed that some people with more up to date CPU's such as Core i5 Quad have experienced this error also.

And also I see there are quite a number of people online who reported they got Snow Leopard to work on a P4 machine.

So I am thinking maybe something went wrong with the above VMWare Unlocker, and VMware is not properly patched.

I would much appreciate any advice on this, and whether this project is feasible at all. In all the online tutorials on this project which I have read, I have never seen any mention of a minimum CPU required. If it can't work then at least it would be interesting to know exactly why, eg is it because my CPU does not support SSE3 ? 'Get a newer CPU' is a bit of a vague statement !

Windows 7 runs as a VM on my CPU without any problems at all, so I figure there might be some chance Snow Leopard could also.

Any advice much appreciated.
