Inspiron 6400 and the GMA950 in 10.6.8 (27A2)

Hi folks,

i used a long time the hackbook with the stock GMA950 kexts and a framebuffer with version 1.4.20.

Everything works fine with QE, but in word or in DSDT editor sometimes the screen or the cursor goes garbled.

So i decided to use the stock AIFB from 10.6.8.

First boot and no luck with black screen. But on external display was the extended desktop.

So i activated the hot corner trick on desktop. The second boot was with black screen too, but with the hotcorner trick the display was there.

Everything works fine with QE and nothing is garbled.

But my problem is still the black screen at boot.

So i tried to edit a DSDT with Method DTGP, Device PNLF and the GMA 950 notebook patch.

I reordered the method DOD for output device.

But still no luck! Black screen!

So what can i do to get the display working like the hot corner trick?

Yes, i made it!

10.6.8 on my inspiron 6400 with actual framebuffer

and

apple powermanagement.

i used this tutorial and patched my dsdt for 10.6.8.

Can you please share more details about DSDT patching you have done?

Yes, i patched my original DSDT with DTGP Method, the gma950 notebook patch and the PNLF patch.

Additional i changed azal to hdef (for sound) and added the HPET Method.

But the trick to get actual framebuffer to work is to delete all devices (CRT, TV, DVI) under PCI0 / VID except LCD.

the only problem i get is that Power Point doesn't display a presentation. i can only see the animations between the sites and then stays the screen black.

I have installed Lion with Chameleon RC5 boot loader and graphics works out of the box. added EFI string and set resolution in com.apple.Boot.plist, and the display is in native 1280x800 resolution. I have added DSDT too, just to make sure that things work properly.

Only problem is that the hardware acceleration (QE/CI) does not work. So I can not view video on youtube :(

But on the plus side, system is faster and much responsive.

Finally I got everything working. The kexts were not loading properly. I could find find errors like:

com.apple.kextcache[326]: AppleIntelGMA950.kext has no Info.plist file.
com.apple.kextcache[326]: AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext has no Info.plist file.

So I replaced my kexts with vanilla ones from the installation drive and everything works fine now (although I face some problems while watching HD videos).

I have attached my DSDT for anyone who is interested.

Where is the DSDT ?

Here is the DSDT. I did not notice the error while uploading the file ;)

I managed to fix the Ethernet Built-in option for AppStore and iCloud through patching. I welcome any improvements / suggestions.

So, your CPU is a real core2duo?

Is original Powermanagement working with your DSDT?

Yes, my CPU is a real Core2Duo. DSDT patch for two cores is not working. So I am using VoodooTSCSync. Also, using Voodo 0.2.1 for sound, because latest versions cause kernel panic.

Power management is is still an open issue, although I did not replace any next, the system will not wake from sleep. Hence Caffine is installed to prevent my system from going to sleep.

The only piece which is not really working is Intel 3945 Wifi.

My system works with native powermanagement, so everything is working. The intel wifi card was changed with a broadcom card, patched with apple branded.

Voodootsc sync works, too and voodoohda with latest versions. I tried to patch applehda but no luck.
