Hey dude!

I am currently running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on a Lenovo Y530 (actually running a DualBoot - Mac OS X and Windows 7 ;-) ) with almost the same specs as yours (just a slightly faster CPU - Core2Duo P8400).

I used tonymacx86's method to make things work.

I strongly advice you to read tonymacx86's guide (and others of course) very carefully!

(see: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ibo...c-os-x-on.html)

If I'm not mistaken your system is a little different from the example in the guide so you will have to adjust some of the steps, most importantly:

- you're gonna have to use iBootLegacy instead of #####

- because your CPU is running on a Sandy Bridge

you're gonna have to use UpdateHelper before updating from 10.6 to 10.6.8

(see:

Another way to be a little more on the safe side is using the 10.6.7 Combo Update on the 10.6 install instead of the 10.6.8 (the 10.6.7 update was more 'compatible' with Intel PCs).

I updated to 10.6.7 and when that was stable used the 10.6.8 one afterwards.

Have a USB keyboard and mouse handy since your laptop keyboard and trackpad may not work with one of the OS X versions at first (and it's really annoying if you fail because of that)!

You should also make sure to have access to a second PC that's online in case something goes wrong and you need guidance or tools...

In addition, you should have a USB stick (or better yet an extra HDD) to clone to once you have a stable install.

(Use SuperDuper! to clone your HDD to an external storage device.)

(get it here: http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/Sup...scription.html)

Finally:

Be patient! Don't get discouraged!

There will be setbacks...

It can be done!

If you really wanna do this, I can give you a step by step run-down of my procedure - I'm guessing that your way to do this is gonna be the same...

If that sounds good, tell me and I'll post it here...

One more VERY IMPORTANT thing:

Your WiFi is NOT going to work with Mac OS X!

There is NO driver out there for the Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.

So you're gonna need an OS X compatible WiFi PCMCIA card or USB stick to get back online.

(I have just ordered the Rosewill RNX-N1 Wireless-N 2.0 Dongle - based on numerous reports that should work but I can't say for sure until Monday (10/17/11)).

Good luck!

Rock on!

Slowhand.
