korngold
Okay, I realize this is a hackintosh forum, but I'm in a bit of a bind. I have a 15" MacBook Pro, which seems to boot up just fine until the grey apple screen and this appears to be a driver issue. No one on any apple forums seem to have a clue about drivers--except here! I make it just to the point where it's about to load the OS, then it just stays frozen on the Apple screen (with a frozen progress clock). Thing is, the OS loads fine--all the way. I can access the computer from screen sharing on my hackintosh or my other MBP. Here's the rub: there were a series of Macbook Pros with NVIDIA GeForce 8600 M processors that were recalled. Timeline on that was 4 years. I just got back from the Apple store where the "genius" with a bit of a chip on his shoulder told me that I'm 3 months out from that recall and don't qualify. So, I'm back to square 1. External video is not working, either. However, I can use it as a firewire target drive (with full video display of the firewire symbol), or I can let it boot all the way and screen share, in which case it works fine, though the video is not "crisp." I am able to boot another macbook from the drive, which currently has OSX 10.6.8 on it. Anyway, can I "hack" NVIDIA drivers onto a real mac? Any issues with doing that, and which driver should I use? The video card still seems to work fine since the opening apple screen is clear with no artifacts. Thanks in advance.
