Yaotzin666
Hello, I recently have been working on getting 10.6.8 running on my laptop and everything is working out well right now except for one issue. My CPU when Idle is running around 60 to 70 degrees Celsius. I have tried using VoodooPState, VoodooMonitor and VoodooTSCSync and nothing has seemed to work. I am currently using a laptop cooling pad to try and keep the temp down and it is currently around 55 degrees Celsius. I am running a dell Vostro 1500 intel Core 2 duo. Thanks, Chaz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/266408-high-cpu-temp/ Share on other sites
klonfuture
my intel core 2 duo t7100 is 60-70 at max load and 48-49 idle. obviously you don't get speedstep working so your cpu is working at the max freq all the time you need to delete those voodoopstates, voodoopower and change your mac model to macbookpro5,1 in smbios.plist so you get native speedstep working. also update chameleon to latest rev from trunk. use chameleon wizard for that Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/266408-high-cpu-temp/#findComment-1741066 Share on other sites

smartie77
Is there anyway to verify that Speedstep is working? you will notice it. OSX using native speedster and power management runs only noticeable hot for 3d stuff or excessive you tubing or high cpu intense tasks. Normal idle "office/surfing" = Laptop is silent and cool. To perfect it you need of course to make sure that the GPU is also playing nice with fan-speeds/clock-gating. Depending on what GraphicsCard you have, you might want to have a look in AppleGraphicsPowermanagement.kext. For my Ati Mobility I need the values given for iMac10,1 or 11,1 - so I renamed the items inside the kexts plist : iMac11,1 renamed to MacBookPro5,1 to match my SMBIOS. This plus using NATIVE power manager ( no Nullcpu,no sleep enabler ) on a Core2Duo ( mine is a Penryn T6500) will result in much cooler and effective use of the Laptop. Can be improved even more with a properly edited DSDT : LPC device and SBUS have effects on coolness. changing USB to internals makes Sleep ( suspend to ram ) and spin down of HDDs working ( might need ahci device vendor in dsdt if it is no SONY ) . LID / WAK methods in DSDT makes screen dimming on inactivity working. so ; "vanilla" ** plus dsdt is your salvation. Needs of course a bit reading necessary. For beginners of DSDT I RECOMMEND DSDTE FROM EVOSOFT, find it via google, its a spanish osx86 site, but the app is in english too, and it really makes dsdt editing easy understandable and has many pre-made fixes included. ** remember that Apple in fact used our core2duos in their MacBooks, so the original kernel and together its AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kexts ( this means "vanilla ") is made for ours already and all the OSX methods for power settings can really work with our hardware. All we need to do is let OSX know about the hardware to use. And because OSX cannot understand BIOS, and chameleon only translates the most needed generic stuff into EFi, we need DSDT in the middle to glue it all together. DSDT tells OSX what our BIOS has to offer. In a OSX way to understand..
