_bridges_
I have some software that requires at least 10.6. VM is way too slow. I want a dual boot situation. I have the partition ready to go. Are there any good SL distros for AMD, or do I have to install 10.5 first and follow a million steps? AMD Athlon II X2 240 NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Well, there certainly is a wealth of information here. After a two days and 12 distros later, the iPC 10.5.6 final with the iPC_1056_PPF_v1.1 edit solved the "still waiting for root device" sata booting woes for my hopeless AMD. Getting the motherboard model # and doing a search really helps. Now just have to get upgraded to 10.6 and I'm GTG. _bridges_
Well here's what I did to get a stable Leopard (10.5) on a HP Slimline s5510y. 1. Download an iso for iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal FINAL 2. Download iPC_1056_PPF_v1.1 and apply the patch to the ipc iso using PPF-O-Matic 3. Burn iso and reboot system 4. Hit F8 for other options 5. Type -f and hit <enter> 6. Install using the following options iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel (video) Natit (in my case I did NVinject 0.2.1 Default for my Nvidia NX8400GS) (chipset) AppleNForceATATest (MeDevil) (Other) Azalia Audio (no sense loading network adapter - none of them work) Patched USB Drivers (Fixes and Patches) ACPI Fix FireWire Mount Fix SATA Driver Icon Fix(New) Dual Boot Time Sync Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5 Shutdown/Restart Fix UUID Error Fix USB Mount Fix All Applications 7. After completed, the system will hang indefinately on the gray screen. You'll need to do a hard reboot. Also you'll need to figure out a way to remove the iPC install dvd. 8. Hit F8 for other options 9. Make sure the correct hard drive is selected to boot from and type -f and hit <enter>. Don't worry if you get some weird error and the first boot up crashes. Just rense and repeat this step. The second go around should work. 10. The internet won't be working because there wasn't a driver native to the mother board. 11. Now you'll have to find a usb wireless adapter that comes with mac drivers to access the Internet. Install and reboot. Be sure to use the F8 for an alternative load and -f <enter>. Now my next step is to figure out how to upgrade to Snow Leopard. _bridges_
Well, I'm proudly writing this message from my new 10.6.3 install of iAtkos S3 V2. After six days and several disks, I have a bit of advice for beginners w/ AMD. IPC 10.5.6 Final is your friend. Install it first. I left some of the steps I took above. If you get the "Still waiting for root device" error, then make sure to download the iPC_1056_PPF_v1.1 patch and install it. The AppleNForceATATEST kext by MeDevil is your friend and will be with you for the rest of your Hackintoch career on the hunk of junk your on (or you wouldn't be reading this post). I've actually installed the AppleNForceATATest on the 10.6.3 to get past the boot screen. I do however frequently get errors popping up during software updates because of it. Someone will have to give me some input on that. Install 10.5.6 and run it successfully for a bit to build some confidence in the push for Snow Leopard. I installed 10.5.6 on my first partition which I allocated about 40 gigs to. I then created three more partitions, one for SL, Windows 7, and a 10 gig partition for what ever ISO I'm installing at the moment. You'll want to keep the first 10.5.6 around to take care of any issues you have during the 10.6 install and boot sequence. BTW, I reformatted the whole drive into GUID. 7 doesn't mind it and SL chokes without it. After you install 10.5.6, install the latest Chameleon (in my case it was 2.0-RC4) before you do anything else. If you fail to do this step, you'll just be spinning your wheels installing different 10.6 distros until you've used them up. I was install different 10.6 distros for five days before I realized how necessary a new load of this boot loader is. Can't stress it enough, download the **** thing and install it! Since you've updated Chameleon already, make sure to uncheck the box in the customization menu. You don't need to screw up your boot loader if it's working for you. And man, with this hunk of junk I'm on, if it works - don't screw with it. Also, don't go all willy-nillie on the options. The less you check in the customization area the better. Install the kexts separately after you already know you can boot into the OS. As I mentioned, I unchecked the boot loader option, selected qoopz 10.3, video enabler, ethernet enabler (which did me no good - still running on a usb dish I mentioned in an earlier post), .. and that's it. Hands off the goods! You can come back to that later when you know what your doing. Also, I left the SATA options unchecked. That's because after I installed SL successfully and was running into the "still waiting for root device", I booted up in my 10.5 partition, downloaded a newest copy of the AppleNForceATATEST by MeDevil I could find, and installed it in /System/Library/Extensions/. After that I was staring at 10.6 - after days and days and days of screwing with these **** distros. I learned a lot about mac though. And now I can install all the cool new programming tools I bought off the Mac Store - so it's all good. See... I'm still supportin' Job's new retirement plan.
