Sadamune
Background: I have an Intel D915GUX board with a Gateway BIOS, 4GB of RAM, a Pentium 4 660 3.6GHz CPU, and a GeForce GT 220 that I'm eager to use for a Hackintosh build. I bought this particular model of motherboard because it is very close to the custom Intel board that Apple used (the 'Barracuda' board) in the very first Intel Mac, the Developer Transition Kit. The CPU is the same as well. I bought these components in the hope that they would present the fewest obstacles to getting OS X working properly given that all the hardware was the same as in the DTK, save for the Marvell networking chip. However, unlike the DTK I only have IDE drives (HD and DVD) to work with. I put this build on the 'back burner' for a few years and now I'm trying to resurrect this project and finally get this Hackintosh going. The osx86project wiki lists that the D915G** series boards worked up to OS X 10.5.8 with patching but there is no compatibility information listed for later OS versions. My hope is to somehow get Snow Leopard on this machine. My first installation attempts were with tonymac's well documented ##### + ##### method, involving a Snow Leopard retail DVD. Using ##### legacy with the -x -v options I either get kernel panics or a "still waiting for root device" message. So, I'm looking for either an alternate install method or some wizard fix for my current impasse. - So, given this hardware, what installation method will probably work best? - Will a SATA optical drive solve my "still waiting for root device" problem? Surely someone's managed to get Snow Leopard to work on a P4...right? I greatly appreciate the help.
